The identity of an Ayr woman killed in a horrific house fire has been revealed, as police continue to investigate what happened.

THE identity of an Ayr woman killed in a horrific house fire has been revealed, as police wait to speak with the sole survivor.

Florrie Reuben, also known as “Kory”, died from serious burn injuries on Tuesday after her Home Hill Rd house caught fire in the early hours of the morning.

The 47-year-old was a mother of two and had recently welcomed her first grandchild to the world.

Police have launched Operation Uniform Turmeric to investigate the circumstances leading up to her death and the critical injuries to her husband.

A relative, Tamara Monday, shared her sadness on social media.

“Ama, gonna (sic) miss you,” she wrote.

”Rest in peace aunty,” Margaret Burr wrote.

Florrie Reuben died from injuries she suffered in a house fire at Ayr on Tuesday.

Ms Reuben and her husband were flown to Townsville University Hospital, but sadly she couldn’t be saved.

Her husband, a 65-year-old man, has been flown to Brisbane for treatment.

Townsville District Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Lawson said police had been called to the house just hours before the fire for a mental health issue.

Superintendent Lawson said “some comments” had been made from someone at the property which prompted police and paramedics to attend about 1am.

About 5.30am, the house was on fire.

A neighbour risked his life to raise the couple as the house burned, and he was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

The house was declared a crime scene on Tuesday and police are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Investigators expected to wrap up their scene examination on Wednesday.

Ms Reuben’s husband has been flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Investigators have been unable to speak to him yet. Ms Reuben’s death is being treated as suspicious.

Police attendance at the property just hours before the fire will also form part of the investigation.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 4am and 6am on Tuesday who may have information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to contact police.

Ms Reuben bought the five-bedroom house in July last year for $175,000.

Her family did not wish to speak to media about the tragedy, saying they were grieving privately.
