Police say their officers were “shaken” with minor bruising after two teenage girls allegedly rammed their car while trying to make a desperate getaway in a stolen vehicle in Townsville.

Police were conducting patrols in the Deeragun area when they spotted a stolen silver Mazda sedan in Bradford St around 4.30am on Monday.

The car was allegedly stolen from a home in Thuringowa about 3am earlier that morning.

Police pulled in behind the stolen Mazda which reversed into their vehicle before speeding off.

The Mazda drove towards Wagner Street and lost control hitting a power pole.

Police allege two juvenile females — both aged 14 — ran from the car and fled the scene but were located soon after by the dog squad.

Townsville Patrol Inspector Jason Brosnan said the Rapid Action Patrol (RAP) vehicle involved sustained extensive damage during the incident and will likely be out of action for some time.

“It puts police officers lives in danger and damages police vehicles which then adds to the strain on our resources,” he said.

“The vehicle had to be towed away and the gearbox has been damaged as well so it won’t be a quick fix.”

He said the police officers inside the car were left “shaken” with some minor bruising after the collision.

The two girls were assisting with police inquiries on Monday.

One of the girls has been charged with burglary, commit indictable offence and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police investigations are continuing.
