A Darwin father is warning families to check their chicken after his son allegedly found a metal screw in his KFC meal.

Major Singh said son Jigar was eating his fourth piece of KFC popcorn chicken when he allegedly gagged and spat a metal screw into his grandfather’s hand, who was in the back seat beside him.

An NT health spokesman confirmed the organisation had received a complaint about the incident and an investigation was underway.

KFC Australia was contacted by this publication for comment but has not responded.

Mr Singh said he had spoken with a food safety officer who was investigating the incident.

“She said she checked with KFC and they haven’t anything else, like the same screw,” he said.

“They are still checking with the supplier – who’s going to supply the chicken to KFC – maybe the screw is coming from the men cutting the pieces of chicken with the machines.”

Mother Harjeet Kour said she was “very scared with the little one” after the incident and took Jigar to the doctor.

“He was crying and he didn’t eat at all,” she said.

“The doctor said I need to keep an eye on him if he’s just having vomiting or poo or any blood.”

Ms Kour said a Google search surfaced several similar incidents around the world.

“There’s too many complaints, nothing changed,” she said.

“I don’t know what we do, but this is the thing, that we really want people to know the story.”
