BLAKE Puruntatameri is known as the “Little Brother’’ of clever Tiwi Bombers speedster Harley.
But for long periods on Saturday night he was the main man in a red jumper
The 20-year-old was only playing his second Premier League against a powerful St Mary’s side under lights at the home of NTFL footy
But his leg speed and sublime left foot kicking were still good enough to win him the Round 8 nomination for the $500 2019-20 NT News Rising Star award.
Tiwi assistant coach Brenton Toy said Puruntatameri had impressed the coaching staff in both of his senior appearances despite his lack of senior experience.
“We rotated him through the forward line with occasional runs through the wing and it worked a treat,’’ Toy told the NT News Puruntatameri had surprised a lot of people with his run and skill in the tough classroom of senior football.
“Blake played well in the Districts win a week before and now he’s backed that up against the Saints,’’ Toy said.
“He’s maturing very quickly as a footballer, much like a lot of young blokes on the islands who keep going under the radar.’’
