With Christmas gift-giving now in the rear, thousands of eager Territory shoppers took to Casuarina Square to make the most of Boxing Day bargains.

From air-fryers and microwaves to pillows and bedsheets, more than 30,000 Territorians, young and old, cashed in on Thursday’s Boxing Day sales at Casuarina Square.

Checkout lines stretched far and wide inside some of the centre’s key retailers - Woolworths, Kmart, JB Hi-Fi and Big W – while other popular stores had queues of up to 25 metres and non-stop customer traffic.

Crowds totalling 30,000 continued to build throughout Boxing Day.

Casuarina Square currently has more than 180 specialty stores across it’s 55,000sq m area.

One shopper said this year’s Boxing Day crowds were some of the biggest she had seen in the Territory.

Another, who purchased some new clothes from Jay-Jays, said Boxing Day was one of his favourite days of the year.

“It’s amazing to be surrounded by so many people,” he said.

“It’s such a special day for all of us because there’s so many good things to buy,” he said.

“People know they’ve got a little bit of money left over after Christmas, so they come ready to spend.”

“There’s a massive crowd here today and I think we’ve done pretty well,” he said.

“We’re getting a lot of exposure, today is definitely one of the biggest days we’ve had.

“The atmosphere for this year’s Boxing Day was awesome.”

Centre manager Elysia Billingham, who started in her role last month, was delighted at the turnout.

“The energy was electric. There were long queues forming at many stores and our food court retailers worked tirelessly to keep up with demand,” she said.

“Our retailers had a fantastic day as shoppers took full advantage of the Boxing Day specials.

“We’re thrilled to see such strong community engagement and are proud to deliver a vibrant shopping experience for our customers.”
