The traditional Supercar Transporter Convoy locked in for Wednesday, June 16

Darwin’s 24th edition of the Supercars includes the annual Transporter Convoy from Hidden Valley to the Darwin CBD and an Iron Horse J60 Jet Dragster.

THE Merlin Darwin Triple Crown has kicked up a gear with confirmation the Night Transporter Convoy, driver signings, pit lane walk and children’s entertainment will all go ahead in edition 24 of the Supercars in the Top End.

Organisers have added the incredible Iron Horse J60 Jet Dragster to the line-up, ensuring the full program of track timings for the June 18-20 round is locked in.

The Night Transporter Convoy is a favourite, with crowds lining the streets from Hidden Valley Raceway to the Darwin CBD to see the transporters.

This year’s convoy is set down for Wednesday, June 16, with family entertainment in Raintree Park that includes live music and activities for the kids from 4pm.

Fans can meet their Supercars and Australian Superbikes heroes during signings at the Darwin Waterfront on Thursday and later at Mindil Beach Sunset Markets from 5.30-6.30pm.

There will also be the chance to see display cars and buy merchandise and tickets.

The documentary Challenge Accepted, about Hot Wheels Stuntz hero Matt Mingay who is part of this year’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown, will also air at the Mindil signing.

The much-loved pit lane walk returns in its usual format this year and will take place on Saturday, 19 June at 7.50am where fans get a sneak peek inside the team garages and an opportunity to see the Supercars up close.

There will be plenty of entertainment for the kids, including the Junior Racing Experience & Pit Stop Challenge, where children can take part in a simulated race and be put through their paces during a mock-up tyre change.

Then there is the bLU cRU Mini Moto, where kids can ride mini bikes on a safe, inflatable track.

The Iron Horse J60 Jet Dragster has been added to this year’s line-up and will provide plenty of flame and noise thanks to its 17,300 RPM with afterburner.

All this plus the Supercars, Australian Superbikes, Stadium Super Trucks, support categories Improved Production, Commodore Cup and HQ Holden & Circuit Excel, Nitro Up North and the Saturday night concert featuring Bernard Fanning, Ball Park Music and Alice Ivy.

Major Events boss Tim Watsford is the biggest and best round on the Supercars schedule this year.

“We’ve got so much packed into the three days and people around the country will see Darwin turn it on for this event via the live broadcast,’’ he said.
