Country Swimming Championships to be held at Parap Swimming Pool in Darwin

More than 400 young Australian swimmers will descend from across Australia - including children from our region - are heading to Darwin for the four-day Country Swimming Championships.
The Northern Territory, Queensland, ACT, NSW, SA, WA and Victoria will be well represented when the competition kicks off at at Parap Swimming Pool from Saturday, October 1 to Tuesday, October 2.
The swimmers are 12 to 18 years old and include competitors from Katherine, Nightcliff, Darwin, Casuarina, Alice Springs, Bathurst, Sydney, Hunter Valley, Barossa, Adelaide, Mount Gambier, Sydney, Newcastle, Gunnedah, Canberra, Wagga Wagga, Grafton, Wollongong, Griffith, NSW Central Coast, Northern Rivers, NSW mid-north coast, Gippsland, Warrnambool, Mildura, Moe, Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Wangaratta, Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Dalby, Fraser Coast, Rockhampton and Cairns.

“It’s a great opportunity for regional swimmers, not just in the Territory, but across Australia, to have the opportunity to compete at a higher level than they may have before,” Katherine Turtles head coach Pru Ducey said.
Swimming Northern Territory chief executive officer Rob West said the plan was for the Swimming Australia-backed titles to be hosted in Darwin every two or three years.
“The fact is, the swimmers that we’re targeting are all regional, and country swimmers from all over Australia and they are the swimmers that are hopefully going to develop into the national swimmers of the future,” West said.
