TENSION ‘over a girl’ is believed to have sparked a sickening coward punch of a Darwin High student, followed by a wild school brawl > WATCH THE DISTURBING FOOTAGE HERE

STUDENTS involved in a vicious lunchtime Darwin school brawl that hospitalised two teenagers — including one who was ‘coward punched’ in the face — are yet to be disciplined.

A graphic video, which captured the moment the 15-year-old was punched by another student, circulated quickly on social media on Tuesday.

Students from Casuarina Senior College entered the grounds of Darwin High School prior to the disturbing incident but Darwin High School principal Jill Hazeldine said staff from both schools were still trying to establish what unfolded.

She said the students involved were yet to be reprimanded.

“At this stage, no suspensions have been issued,” she said.

“Both schools are working with the students who were involved in the incident to determine all of the facts with appropriate disciplinary action to follow.”

The fight took place on Monday at Darwin High School when up to seven Casuarina Senior College students — with uniforms turned inside out — allegedly trespassed onto school grounds.

St John Ambulance spokesman Craig Garraway confirmed two teens were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital after the incident.

The 15-year-old remained in hospital overnight with injuries to his head. He also underwent further tests to assess the extent of his injuries.

A police spokeswoman said inquiries were continuing.

A concerned father of a Darwin High School student said his daughter was shaken after witnessing the fight.

“It’s very concerning to see how easily people can come in from outside school and cause trouble,” he said.

“Apparently a girl’s new boyfriend from Casuarina was upset about what an old boyfriend was saying about her, so he came over with a gang of kids to bash him.

“They were found by a teacher at recess and kicked out and then returned at lunch.”

A Darwin High School Year 11 student who saw the fight said students from different schools sneak in and out to fight “all the time”.

A meeting between stakeholders will be held on Wednesday to discuss bringing back school-based constables.
