The iconic Australian indie rockers, Ball Park Music, will be kicking off their Australian tour in Tasmania this May.
The band is touring with their new record, Like Love with album namesake song, going number 1 on the Aria charts.
Singer-songwriter Sam Cromack said it was an exciting time for the band, when it was announced they would be opening for Oasis.
“We’re extremely excited,” he said.
“It’s probably the single most exciting thing that’s happened in our music career. It’s their big reunion tour, it’s massive.”
Ball Park Music are in rehearsals for their Aussie and New Zealand tour, bringing together their long catalogue of music, which Cromack said could sometimes be undefinable.
“We really like a lot of different sounds, and have tried to incorporate a lot of different things across our music over the years,” he said.
“We’ve done a lot of love songs. There’s a lot of existential dread, a lot of sharing how you feel.”
He said the new album was a shift in their music style.
“We wanted to make a quieter, prettier record than anything else that was in our catalogue,” he said.
Cormack said he was able to pull up songs he had written over the years for this album, songs he said he was “really fond of”.
More than ever, Aussie bands were embracing regional tours, the singer-songwriter said.
“The music industry, particularly in Australia, is undergoing so much dramatic change,” he said
“Artists are just trying a lot of different things and people are getting to regional areas more.”
Cromack said the band was keen to kick off the tour at the Forth Pub in the state’s North-West on May 2.
The pub recently hosted Lime Cordiale and Peking Duk will also be playing there for their regional tour.
“It’s a bit of a newcomer on the scene,” Cromack said.
“It’s a bit of a new venue [for us] that’s attracting a lot of attention and good crowds too.”
Hobart will then be the next stop on their tour, performing at The Odeon on May 3 — only the second time playing there.
He said it would be an “intimate and prettier” show, playing new and old music.
“We’re really kind of wrapping our arms around our more melodic and beautiful material where the songwriting is really pushed to the front,” he said.
Hobart is an all ages show.
Tickets still available for the Tasmania shows via Oztix.
