Style runs in the family of Maria Bigg.
Ms Bigg is the founder and creative director of Vivi Al Ago – a Tasmanian women’s fashion label specialising in premium fabrics, timeless pieces and minimal design.
She was inspired to start the label by her daughter, Lara Fells, who as founder of Byron Bay company St. Agni is a successful designer in her own right.
“I was having a little moan about finding things I wanted and Lara told me to do my own brand,” she said.
“I wouldn’t have had the courage to start it if it wasn’t for her.
“She’s been a great mentor.”
Two years on from first launching their first collection, Ms Bigg has celebrated the opening of the label’s first brick and mortar store in Murray Street, Hobart.
Ms Bigg said the time was right for the label’s expansion.
“We did a pop-up in November which went quite well and when this beautiful a space became available we thought lets bite the bullet,” she said of her and business partner, Alexandra Harvey.
“Online shopping has its place but we realised women want to touch and feel our clothing.
“It’s about giving a really nice retail experience.”
In marking the opening with a launch party on Friday night, Ms Bigg said the local support from other local fashion fiends had been “amazing”.
“This part of town is really becoming a nice shopping hub now,” she said.
“It’s great to see things picking up in Hobart, and we’re happy to be open for business.”
