Police blitz targets partiers

Officers charged four people and issued more than 15 move-on orders in a joint operation on Hobart’s waterfront and Salamanca on Saturday night.

Police, metro and licencing, council members, security officers and the Liquor and Gaming board united for a high visibility operations.

Acting Inspector Danny Jackson said the operation was focused on detecting and deterring anti-social behaviours and licencing and alcohol offences to promote public safety.

“During the evening, more than a dozen licenced premises were visited with three licencing infringements issued,” he said.

Police say they arrested a 26-year-old Hobart woman and a 29-year-old Hobart man in relation to outstanding arrest warrants. Officers also charged them with several counts of stealing.

Officers said they responded to reports of a teenager allegedly making threats to a person shortly before midnight. Police arrested the teenager allegedly involved and charged them with multiple stealing, trespass and destroying property offences.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, police said there were reports of a teenager wielding scissors.

They said a man reportedly sustained a minor injury but had left the area before police arrived.

Police said they located the teenager allegedly involved and the alleged scissors in their possession. The teen was arrested and will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

“Police remain committed to public safety, and ensuring every member of our community can be safe at home, at work, and in public spaces,” Acting Inspector Jackson said.

“We will continue to target those people who choose to do the wrong thing in our community.”

Teens arrested following alleged motorcycle theft

September 16: Three teenagers have been arrested and charged by police after reports of “suspicious activity” in the Hobart suburb of Dynnyrne.

Officers report being alerted to the incident just after 11pm and say they found two motorcycles abandoned on the street.

Police say the bikes were later determined to be stolen and upon inspection had damage to its ignition.

They also reported finding the tools allegedly used in the theft.

Police say the three teenagers were soon located and arrested in a nearby street.

Two of the teens, aged 15 and 13, were charged with stealing offences and were bailed to appear in court at a later date.

The other teen, a 17-year-old, who is believed to have other outstanding matters, was charged with possession of cannabis, being found prepared for the commission of a crime, motor vehicle stealing, attempted motor vehicle stealing and destroying property and was detained to appear in court.

Police said the teens involved were all in breach of court bail conditions at the time of the alleged offending.

Acting Inspector Danny Jackson thanked the public for their vigilance in reporting the incident.

“It was because we were notified so quickly that we were able to arrest the alleged offenders and recover the stolen vehicles,” he said.

Half a kilo of ice and $100k seized in police haul

Police have seized more than half a kilo of ice and $100,000 in targeted raids in the state’s North West, leading to the two people being charged.

Authorities say the discovery came after a driver, a 52-year-old West Ulverstone man, evaded police on Thursday.

The man was arrested.

Police say a backpack with 135 grams of ice, along with $3225 was found in the car.

The passenger of the vehicle is alleged to have fled the scene on foot.

Investigations led to authorities search areas in Ulverstone, which uncovered 527 grams of ice, 74 grams of cocaine, 154 grams of MDMA, stolen property, and $100,000 of cash, which is believed to be the proceeds of crime.

The driver of the vehicle was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, evading police, unlawful possession of property, and dealing with proceeds of crime.

Meanwhile, the passenger, a 36-year-old Ulverstone man, has since been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and possessing a controlled drug.

The pair are set to appear in court today.

Three people charged

September 13: Tasmania Police believe three people are connected to an ongoing series of thefts across Southern Tasmania.

Officers will allege the total value of property stolen was estimated at $15,000 in a series of offending since August 21.

Police say they’ve recovered approximately $3000 of the alleged stolen property.

A 24-year-old Glenorchy man was charged with 24x stealing and 1x assault.

A 26-year-old Glenorchy woman was charged with of 8x stealing and 1x unlawful possession.

And a 29-year-old Glenorchy man was charged with stealing, and has been bailed to appear at court at a later date.

The other two charged have been detained to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court today, police say.

Officers said the investigation was ongoing and they were seeking information on two cars: silver Kia Rio hatchback registration C34LF and a fawn Toyota Camry sedan registration J42LN.

Structure fire at Moonah

Firefighting crews from Hobart and Glenorchy are working to control a blaze in Moonah.

Emergency responders were alerted to the Hopkins St structure fire around 3.50pm on Tuesday.

The emergency situation has closed the street between Gormanston St and Central Ave.

Tasmania Police have asked motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.

A TFS spokesperson said crews were still working to control the blaze.

Police charge driver over Bridport Rd fatal

Charges have been laid over a fatal crash on Bridport Rd at Lefroy on March 22.

Police say a 25-year-old George Town woman has been charged over the incident that tragically killed one a young boy.

Another child was also injured and taken to George Town Hospital from the crash.

Officers said the driver had been summoned to appear in court accused of multiple offences.

Those include: death by negligent driving, negligent driving, driving while under the influence of a prescribed illicit drug, permit a passenger over 6 months but under 4 years to be unrestrained, permit a passenger aged over 4 years but under 7 years to be unrestrained, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle without a licence, and minor drug offences.

She is expected to return to the Launceston Magistrates Court on November 18.

Midway Point crash cleared

Updated 9.51am: The Tasman Highway at Midway Point has been cleared from the earlier crash.

No injuries were reported, police confirmed.

Initial: Hobart-bound traffic on the Tasman Highway have been warned of delays following a multi-vehicle crash at Midway Point.

Police confirmed the three-vehicle collision occurred at the end of the causeway and was blocking one lane of traffic.

Officers said motorists could expect delays until the scene was cleared.

No injuries have been reported at this stage, police say.
