Independent Braddon MP Craig Garland has pleaded guilty to drug driving charges after he failed a roadside drug test in 2024
Mr Garland faced the Burnie Magistrates court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to one count of driving with a prescribed illicit drug present in oral fluid.
The matter was adjourned for facts and sentencing and so Mr Garland’s legal representation can file an application for a suspended license.
Mr Garland said his barrister, Greg Barns SC, would represent him in the matter.
Taking to social media after his appearance Mr Garland said the charge arose when he was pulled over for a random test as part of a statewide traffic operation in November 2024, which he failed.
“As I have not been sentenced by the court, it is not appropriate for me to comment any further on the matter, except to say that, at the time of the roadside intercept, I did not have a prescription for medicinal use of cannabis. I do now.” Mr Garland said on Facebook.
The matter will return to court in September.
