A young Tasmanian mine worker has admitted to bashing a man by punching him to the head and body multiple times, but denied a related family violence assault on a woman by throwing her into a wall.

Rosebery man Griffin John Woodward, 25, appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday for a first mention of three related charges: two counts of common assault and one of destroying property.

Via defence lawyer Grant Tucker, Woodward pleaded guilty to assaulting a man and damaging his vehicle, but denied assaulting a woman.

The charges were adjourned for mention, facts and sentence on November 13.

No facts of the offending were read to the court.

However, documents filed with the Magistrates Court reveal that the offending, both alleged and admitted to, occurred at Prospect Vale on July 12.

The charges Woodward pleaded guilty to, destroying property and common assault, were committed against the same male complainant.

According to the documents, Woodward destroyed a Toyota Corolla’s window and three tyres, and also assaulted the man by “punching him to the head and body multiple times and pushing him”.

Woodward has pleaded not guilty to an additional assault on a woman at the same time and location.

Tasmania Police allege he “grabbed her by the shoulders and threw her against a wall”.

The three offences have all been charged by police as family violence offending.

The male and female complainants are known to each other.

According to Woodward’s social media profile, he is a maintenance worker at a large West Coast mine.
