Tasmania government: Premier threatens to end political limbo with election
Premier Jeremy Rockliff has emotionally accepted a vote of no confidence from the House, with Tasmanians heading back to the polls in its second election in 15 months. FOLLOW LIVE
An emotional Premier Jeremy Rockliff has accepted the decision of the House after a motion of no-confidence was successful, with Speaker Michelle O’Byrne casting the deciding vote.
The Premier said he would advise the Governor of the result of the vote, and unless the Opposition forms government with the Greens, “most reluctantly” Tasmania would go to another election.
Labor leader Dean Winter on Thursday morning said they would not form a government with the Greens.
If an election is called, it would be the second one for Tasmanians in just over a year.
