The second day of Agfest went off without a hitch as more than 17,000 patrons passed through the Quercus Park gates.
Despite the sunny and dry weather, there were gumboots galore, as the Rural Youth Tasmania and the Agfest Committee encouraged festival goers to don their gumboots in recognition of the challenges faced by young people.
Agfest chairman Dylan Bellchambers said patrons who decorated their gumboots took part in Agfest’s first parade at the Tas Petroleum Central Arena.
“We know gumboots are not the most comfortable footwear, but a good pair of socks makes a world of difference,” he said.
“It’s the same for our young people – the boots represent life’s challenges and socks the wonderful RAW wellbeing officers.
“We had 25 participants who had gone to a lot of trouble to decorate their boots – the judges had a really hard time coming up with a
winner.”
Agfest attendee Lily Ostersen, 4, of Legana, said she enjoyed seeing the animals and was on the hunt for a balloon.
“They need more balloons here. There are lots of people but not enough balloons,” she said.
“I think almost everyone in the world is here today.”
