Criminal charges dropped against former King Island mayor Duncan McFie in Supreme Court
A former King Island mayor, who had pleaded not guilty to possessing and producing child exploitation material, has walked free from court.

A former King Island mayor, who had pleaded not guilty to separate counts of possessing and producing child exploitation material, has walked free from a Hobart courtroom after prosecutors dropped all charges against him.
Alistair Duncan McFie, 57, known as Duncan McFie, appeared in the Supreme Court on Tuesday for what had been listed as a procedural hearing before Associate Justice Michael Daly.
Prosecutors then informed Associate Justice Daly that the case against Mr McFie had been “discharged”.
“Mr McFie, you are free to go,” His Honour told the defendant.
Last September, Mr McFie, appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court to formally plead not guilty to complaints alleged to have occurred on King Island in late 2022.
Mr McFie was the mayor of the King Island Council between 2014 and 2018, and resigned from the council in 2024.
The music teacher was suspended from his workplace at King Island District School after he was charged.
Comment was sought from the Tasmanian Department of Education, Children and Young People about Mr McFie’s employment status following the dropping of charges against him.
