Alleged murderer of 19-year-old stabbed in the head, Isaac King, faces Hobart court

The man alleged to have murdered a 19-year-old by stabbing him in the head has faced a Hobart court on Wednesday, with issues preventing him from entering a plea. What the court heard.

A delay in the release of documents to lawyers representing a Glenorchy man charged with murder will result in a further six-week wait for him to enter a plea over an alleged head stabbing incident last month.

On Wednesday, from the Hobart Remand Prison, Isaac Riley King, 23, appeared via videolink before Magistrate Chris Webster in the Hobart Magistrates Court, facing one count of murder.

The charge allegedly relates to a man’s death at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) in late March, following an incident at a Glenorchy property in early March.

Police state they were called to a Dickson Street home at around 11.30pm on March 11 where officers found a 19-year-old man unconscious and non-responsive outside with a serious head injury from stab wounds.

The 19-year-old was taken to the RHH and remained in a serious condition until his death on March 22.

Detective Acting Inspector Nicholas Bowden from Glenorchy CIB said at the time of the incident that “investigations indicate that the person or people responsible and the victim knew each other”.

Mr King’s lawyer Craig Rainbird said he had yet to receive disclosure from the prosecution and sought a further adjournment to allow time for its receipt and review.

Mr King was remanded in police custody to appear in court on June 5.
