Storms and showers forecast for Darwin NYE celebrations

It is confirmed that a wet and stormy New Year’s Eve is likely in the Top End with showers and possible storms forecast to round out the week.
The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed possible storms and light winds of up 20 km/h were expected for the week ahead in the Top End, although the remnants of Cyclone Jasper were unlikely to have any impact on Darwin.
On Tuesday morning, areas of the greater Darwin region recorded up to 50mm of rainfall – a figure likely to be repeated or surpassed, according to the Bureau’s forecast.
On average, the temperature is predicted to remain between 28C and 35C until New Year’s Eve.
According to its website, NT Parks confirmed that Litchfield National Park remained open via both Batchelor and Cox Peninsula Road, with swimming at Buley Rockhole, Florence Falls and Wangi Falls still available.
Earlier this month a Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson advised Top End residents to use the Bureau’s new ‘seven day forecast’ which shows the range of possible locations that severe weather – including cyclones – may impact.
