A popular Red Centre tourist attraction is “temporarily closed” to the public for an unspecified period of time.
In a series of Facebook posts, Standley Chasm – Angkerle first announced the closure on Saturday June 22, with a commitment to honour all pre-booked camping.
As of Wednesday June 26, the park was still closed with no date provided for when it will open again.
“It is with heavy hearts that our business will remain temporarily closed to the public due to the unexpected loss of a beloved team / family member,” the latest Standley Chasm – Angkerle Facebook post said.
“At this time, we have minimal staff available but are committed to keeping you updated on when we will be fully operational again as we navigate our way through this difficult time.
“Thank you for standing by us during this time of grief.”
Larapinta trekkers are still able to access the campgrounds and the services at the chasm.
When NT news visited Standley Chasm, signs had been erected at the Larapinta Drive turn-off to inform of the closure and the main gates to get in were shut.
Speaking to NT News, tourists who left the site said they didn’t notice anything amiss and said they had enjoyed their stay.
