SOUTHERN Districts snapped its post-Christmas four-game losing streak by

defeating Wanderers at Marrara last night. Despite a scoreless last quarter, the

Crocs looked untroubled in winning 16.5 (101) to 9.8 (62).

Districts started with purpose and with midfielders Rory O’Brien and Josiah

Farrer grabbing everything in sight, they had two goals on the board through

Jeff Garlett and Jayden Clarke inside two minutes of the opening bounce. Four

more goals followed for the tricolours and it was left to lightning fast Beau

O’Connell and his high marking Eagle teammate Joel Jeffrey to give their side

some scoring influence.

Muk Muk Shane Thorne and Croc Dylan Barry snared a goal each early in the

second quarter and then it was all Districts who booted the next four, including

a brace from spearhead Will Farrer.

The Eagles’ midfield lifted in the third term and their most productive quarter

of the match followed.

While they were still outscored, it was a small victory in a game that had few blue-and-gold highlights up to three quarter time.

Bulky Eagle Warwick Williams snapped a wonderful goal early in the final term

and when Michael Cooper ran and bounced his way down the scoreboard wing

for a goal-of-the-year contender, Eagle fans leapt with joy.

Too little too late for Wanderers but they outscored Districts and held them scoreless in the final stanza.
