SOUTHERN Districts’ Farrer brothers will stay at Fred’s Pass for at least another NTFL season.
That was the message from Palmerston president Russell Davey yesterday as speculation grew from outside his club that Districts captain Will and classy midfielder Josiah would be wearing black and white jumpers next season.
“Will and Josiah are still at Districts after talking with (new coach) Matt Cannard when he was first appointed to the job,’’ Davey told the NT News.
“They did show some interest in joining us early on, but when Matty was announced as coach and found out what was going on, they held some discussions and decided to stay.’’
Despite missing out on five-time Dennis Dunn goalkicking trophy winner Will and the brilliant Josiah Farrer, Davey said the Magpies were “rapt’’ to get former player Pierce Liddle back as a player and mentor, while adding big leaping utility Damian Williams to their playing list.
“They’ll both be really good for our club, they’re both local boys who have come over to assist the club,’’ Davey said.
“Pierce has always been a Magpie and wanted to come back home and Damian’s ability to play right around the ground is a big bonus for us.’’
Davey said the recruitment of Buffalo pair Chris Williams and Daniel Stafford and the addition of hard man Liddle and the versatile Williams from Districts showed his club was keen to move off the bottom of the ladder next season.
“I’ve told a lot of people on the committee and the coaching staff that the Magpies as a football club has a city behind them and we have to pick our game up.
“The city is passionate about the Magpies and vice-versa and that is the way we want ti to stay, with success on the footy field thrown in.’’
