Jessica Pitt jailed on fresh offending after breaching suspended sentence for drug trafficking

A receptionist who involved herself in her ex-lover’s meth enterprise has squandered her opportunity at freedom after multiple offences including driving high on meth.

A pregnant woman who involved herself in her ex-lover’s $30,000 drug dealing enterprise has been locked up after she repeatedly flouted court orders.

Jessica Alice Pitt, 26, repeatedly flouted court orders, including driving high on meth, after she was handed a suspended sentence for drug trafficking.

During the January 2023 sentencing, the District Court heard police searched Pitt and Rhys Aaron Johns’ Parafield Gardens residence in January 2021.

They found a bumbag on the roof with 56g of methamphetamine and 27g of methamphetamine in the shed, with both amounts valued at $30,000.

Pitt was then detected with 15g of methamphetamine, valued at $7500 in April 2021.

The court heard Johns won $15,000 online gambling and purchased methamphetamine on credit in anticipation of the winnings coming in but police put a freeze on it after the raid.

Pitt was under pressure to pay back the debt when Johns, who also pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, was taken into custody and resorted back to selling drugs.

She was sentenced to four years jail after pleading guilty to drug trafficking.

Due to her rehabilitation efforts, the sentence was suspended on a three-year good behaviour bond.

However, the court heard last month that Pitt had breached the suspended sentence bond on multiple occasions, including returning positive drug tests and driving not authorised.

The court heard Pitt, who also pleaded guilty to driving without due care, was caught driving while high on methamphetamine on July 25, 2023.

“On this occasion you drove a vehicle on Port Wakefield Highway, your vehicle veered from one side of the road to another, travelled at variable speeds and collided with the rear of another vehicle at an intersection,” Judge Heath Barklay said.

“You were incoherent when police spoke with you.”

The court heard Pitt recommenced using drugs in June 2023 due to issues in her relationship, as well as the approaching anniversary of her father’s death.

The court heard Pitt, who is working as a receptionist, was currently pregnant with her first child.

“Your counsel submitted that your pregnancy is a motivating factor for you to stay on the right track,” Judge Barklay said.

Judge Barklay said he had come to the view that ordering Pitt to serve the drug trafficking sentence would be a disproportionate consequence and excused the breaches.

However he sentenced Pitt to one month and 13 days for the fresh offending, which she was ordered to serve.

“Your offending, in this case, amounts to you repeatedly flouting judicial or administrative orders,” Judge Barklay said.

Pitt was also disqualified from driving for five years.
