Meet Bimbo, the sassy bunny that may just be the Territory’s biggest.
The big boy’s owner Jaziah Holland from Katherine said she responded to an ad for a “meat rabbit” but soon realised Bimbo wasn’t your ordinary bunny.
“I bought him in South Australia when I was there for a little bit of a break,” she said.
“He was originally listed as a meat rabbit so he cost $15. Then I saw his parents and they were quite big and Bimbo himself, who was 14 weeks old, was already the size of a regular rabbit.
“So yeah, I brought him home and he was my little baby, and he just got bigger and bigger.”
Three-year-old Bimbo isn’t an only child, he has a little sister, for better or worse, and they don't always see eye-to-eye, Ms Holland said.
“He’s got his sister Lily and Lily is a different breed of rabbit,” she said.
“But they don’t really get along, she is the mean one even though he is massive compared to her.
“Bimbo is like a big cuddle bunny. He loves cuddles, he loves pets and you can pick him up like a rag doll and he is so fluffy.”
It will come as no surprise that Bimbo loves a feed, with his favourite food being sultanas according to Ms Holland who said “he goes mental over them”.
Though we don’t know the official weight of Bimbo, he is a New Zealand Giant Cross, one of the biggest rabbit breed, but Bimbo even puts those of the same breed to shame when it comes to his size.
“I have seen other people with New Zealand Giant rabbits but they’re all a bit smaller than him,” she said.
“And compared to other regular rabbits, they are obviously small.”
So, do big boy rabbits come with big boy personalities and attitudes?
“He is quite sassy,” Ms Holland said. “If you’re standing in his way, he will stamp his feet at you.
“He also has a little dog bed to sleep in and if you put something in his bed, he will pick it up and toss it out of his bed.
“Also, he loves getting his Santa pictures every year.”
