City of Darwin said the lake at East Point Reserve has been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

Council said it received an unconfirmed report from a member of the public regarding the suspected sighting of a small shark.

City of Darwin teams are working to verify the accuracy of the reported sighting.

“In the interest of public safety, the lake has been closed, and signage has been put up around the lake advising of the closure,” Council said in a statement.

“City of Darwin will work closely with NT Fisheries to investigate the matter and the public will be advised when the lake is reopened.

“In the meantime, the lake remains closed and is not to be used for any water activities.

City of Darwin apologises for any inconvenience.”
