Stuart Park Primary School’s Year 6 cohort ended the 2023 school year with a colourful performance.
Dozens of students took to the stage to perform to a medley of 2011-2012 pop songs, representing the years much of the class was born.
The school’s 2023 house captains said they were excited to wrap up the school year but were sad to see some of their friends move to different schools.
Ayla Johnston said it had been the “best year ever”, filled with excursions, trips to the waterpark, graduation, and amazing teachers.
Ayla and her fellow house captains – Marina Regojevic, Lucas Atkins, and Luca Albertoni – were excited to see what the new year brought.
Ayla and Marina said they would move to Darwin Middle School after their six-week school holidays.
Lucas will go to Haileybury Rendall and Luca will go to the Essington school.
Meanwhile, a skydiving Santa Claus has helped NT students celebrate the last day of school and prepare for the festive holidays.
To the sound of hundreds of Durack Primary School students chanting his name, Santa launched from the safety of a helicopter and parachuted onto the school’s oval.
Two of his elves followed closely behind him, and the trio handed bags of candy canes to several students tasked with spreading Christmas cheer through the school.
NT families will have their pick of more than a thousand free activities during the school holidays.
Youth, Seniors and Equality Minister Ngaree Ah Kit said the holiday program would include youth festivals, splash parties, creative arts, skills workshops, disco nights, sports, hip hop, music, and cultural trips.
Ms Ah Kit said she was pleased to see a “jam-packed calendar” of “mostly free activities”.
“Our young people have worked hard throughout the year and are looking forward to a break to hang out with friends, gain new experiences and prepare for their next school year, or post-school future,” she said.
“There will be a wide range of activities in Darwin, Palmerston, Darwin’s rural area, East Arnhem, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs that will all play their part in keeping young people engaged and busy throughout the holidays.”
The full program and booking details can be found on the NT government’s school holiday calendar.
Students will return to the classroom on 30 January, 2024, with teachers heading back a day earlier.
