A South Australian police officer assisting with Alice Springs crime operations was injured and had to return home early.
The South Australian senior constable was conducting a routine arrest when he received a minor injury to his hand on Thursday evening.
The officer was treated in the Alice Springs Hospital and will return to South Australia before the end of his rotation due to his injuries.
South Australia Police deputy commissioner of police Linda Williams said senior officers have spoken to the injured officer.
“The officer is in good spirits despite the injury to his hand,” she said.
“He is in the final stages of his deployment period but will return home early for further treatment as a matter of caution.
“Unfortunately because of the nature of the work police officers undertake, they can receive injuries from time to time, when this happens we work to give them the best treatment available.”
The senior constable was part of the second of four rotations of SA police to travel to Alice Springs to assist local police.
South Australia Police announced they would send four deployments of 10 officers to Alice Springs, with the first arriving on January 6.
The officers are on an eight-day rotation and are partnered with a Territory cop during their patrols.
“The assistance of South Australian Police will ease this process and ensure the good work we have seen in Alice Springs over the past few months is continued,” NT Police commissioner Michael Murphy said.
NT Police have been contacted for comment.
