Remote housing progress revealed by NT Government

A staggering 4000 new and upgraded homes have been delivered to remote communities, with another 1300 new builds already in the pipeline. See how many new homes each region received.

A staggering 4000 new and upgraded homes have been delivered across 73 remote communities, with another 1300 new builds expected in the coming years, the Territory government has revealed.

The confirmed figures come as remote communities celebrate the delivery of 30 new homes, all completed in July.

The massive month of building offers a snapshot into the significant housing works which have taken place across remote communities, dating back almost a decade for some regions.

In Arnhem Land, almost 1500 new and upgraded homes have been completed in the last eight years, with 600 more scheduled for the next two years.

In the Daly region, more than 300 homes have been delivered, with another 80 projects planned for the region.

In the Big Rivers region, 750 homes new and upgraded homes have been delivered, with a further 200 expected to be completed in the next two years.

Meanwhile in the Barkly region, 500 new homes have been built and upgraded, with a further 100 new and improved homes also planned.

South in the Red Centre, about 1000 homes have been delivered, with around 600 situated in the Gwoja electorate alone.

Central Australian communities are set to receive another 330 new and upgraded homes in the next two years.

While remote houses built between 2017 and 2023 were delivered under the $2.2 billion partnership investment, future homes will be delivered under the landmark $4 billion partnership, which Prime Minister Albanese announced during a visit in March, 2024.

Remote Housing and Homelands Minister Selena Uibo said the commitment was the “biggest remote housing” campaign in Territory history.

“Through the new $4 billion remote housing partnership, the plans for the next remote housing priorities are being finalised with over 1300 new builds and upgrades to commence across the Territory.”
