A neighbour has revealed safety concerns in the weeks leading up to the serious fall of a four-year-old boy off a balcony on the Sunshine Coast.

Police are currently investigating how the four-year-old fell from the balcony on Park Crescent, Sunshine Beach about 10.40am on Saturday, June 14.

A resident of Park Crescent, who wished to remain anonymous, said they first became concerned two weeks ago when a young boy was found walking around the area unsupervised.

“I saw a boy two weeks ago, for the first time, when he was walking around on his own on the road,” they said.

They said they came home on Saturday to see ambulances and police at the home before a woman they believed to be the boy’s mother arrived and fainted after seeing him.

“The mum has come back and seen the child and she passed out, they put her in a different ambulance,” they said.

A police spokesman declined to comment on whether officers were investigating the possibility the boy was home alone at the time of incident.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the boy suffered significant head and facial injuries in the fall.

He was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition on Saturday.

On Monday, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed they were investigating the incident that took place on Park Crescent.

She said the four-year-old boy had been taken to the Queensland Children's Hospital in a stable condition.
