Darling Downs weather: First week of summer brings sunny skies and cool breeze | Dec 1-7 2025
The Darling Downs is set to enjoy near perfect weather as summer sets off, with stormy conditions in the rear view. See the week’s forecast.
Darling Downs residents can expect dry, sunny weather and below-average temperatures this week after November’s storms finally clear.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jonathan How advised November’s woolly weather would be easing off as we head into the first week of December.
“It is looking like quite a dry and stable week ahead,” Mr How said.
“The weather pattern which led to back to back storms and quite humid conditions has now cleared off the coast.
“We are looking at dry and sunny days with cooler and drier westerly winds coming through for much of the week.
“Not a drop of rain it seems, next chance of rain looks to be into Sunday.”
Those afraid clear skies will bring high temperatures need not worry not with the mercury set to drop lower than usual this week.
“It is actually going to be slightly below average (temperatures) if you can believe it,” Mr How said.
“In the next few days, with that drier air coming from the west, we do see things dropping back slightly.”
Temperatures are predicted to drop back to the mid 20s in Toowoomba by Tuesday with most other parts of the Darling Downs reaching high 20s in the early half of the week.
Western Downs residents are expected to feel temperatures in the high 30s on Saturday and Sunday.
“We are looking at generally Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday up to about five degrees below the average,” Mr How said.
“We do start to see temperatures climbing again from mid week into later parts of the week -back up to the low-to-mid 30s in most areas.”
The good weather comes as the Darling Downs and large parts of South East Queensland battle strong thunderstorms throughout November, bringing with it large swathes of rain.
“Pretty much across all of the Downs we saw above average November rainfall,” Mr How said.
Toowoomba Airport recorded 132mm this year, almost doubling the average November rainfall of 77mm.
Similarly in Dalby, 135mm was recorded for the month, up from a 72mm November rainfall average, with most of the Downs recording more than 100mm rainfall for the month.
While more rain may make an appearance into the weekend, dry skies look to be sticking around for some time.
“We may see some thunderstorms popping up around the east of the Darling Downs on Saturday,” Mr How said.
“More likely on Sunday we will see some more widespread thunderstorm activity; although, it really won’t stick around too long, returning back to dry conditions into next week.”
“The first half of December is likely to be drier than typical in the Darling Downs and much of Southern Queensland.
“The models are sort of suggesting we might see activity picking up in the second half of December.
“The best advice would be to check on that forecast quite regularly as it will depend on what sort of storm systems come through.”
