Woman fights for life after Bruce Hwy crash, west of Mackay

An elderly woman has suffered life-threatening injuries and two kids have been injured after a single vehicle crash near a railway line on the Bruce Highway.

An elderly woman is fighting for life after a crash on the Bruce Hwy near a rail track west of Mackay on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of the Bruce Hwy and Donohues Rd, Farleigh, about 11km west of Mackay at around 6.50pm.

Initial reports suggested that the car was near a rail track that crosses the Bruce Hwy.

According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, an elderly female was assessed to be in a life-threatening condition and two children were also treated at the scene.

The woman and the children, who were in stable conditions, were taken to the Mackay Base Hospital.

Queensland Rail understands that the car is on the rail tracks and it has staff on the way to assess the situation.

According to a Queensland Rail spokeswoman, two freight trains were delayed as a result of the crash.

As of 10.50pm on Tuesday, the crash site had been cleared and trains were able to move through again.

No passenger rail services were impacted.

The Bruce Hwy has been blocked from the crash site to near Glendaragh Rd, Farleigh.
