Toyah Cordingley’s suspected killer has spent his first night inside a notorious and overcrowded high-security jail in India’s capital.

Toyah Cordingley’s suspected killer spent his first night inside a notorious and overcrowded high-security jail in India’s national capital as an under-trial prisoner.

According to a jail official, Rajwinder Singh reached New Delhi’s Tihar Jail around 5pm local time.

He was subjected to a thorough security check and asked if has any medical conditions.

He was briefed about the jail rules and will be served food according to the jail manual.

“If a prisoner gets permission from the court for special food due to medical conditions or other issues, approved by the court, then he is allowed outside food,” the official said.

“Rajiwnder Singh has not made any such request, so he will have to eat according to the jail manual.”

Delhi Police said Mr Singh was arrested early on Friday morning in a joint operation by Delhi Police’s Special cell, Central Bureau of Investigation and Interpol with support from local and Australian intelligence units.

He appeared in court on Friday, and was sent to judicial custody in Tihar until November 30, when he will reappear in the court for an extradition hearing.

Housing some of the most high-profile criminals, Tihar has over two-and-a-half times the number of inmates of its actual capacity, making it difficult to monitor them.

It is among the largest complex of prisons in South Asia.

Often there are reports of inmate fighting in the media, however officials say it is “manageable”.
