Time-lapse video shows extent of flooding west of Brisbane

As the state grapples with a mammoth clean-up effort after the recent flood emergency, incredible footage has been released. SEE VIDEO

An incredible time-lapse video has demonstrated the extent to which water levels rose during the recent flood emergency in southeast Queensland.

The footage, released by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, shows floodwaters rise and recede at Glenore Bridge, Glenore Grove, Helidon, Junction View and Woodlands Rd in the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area west of Brisbane.

Queensland still faces a huge clean-up, with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk saying today the state had moved past the national emergency called by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

“So the time for that national emergency was probably a week ago, so we’ve actually gone past that,” she said.

Intense rainfall over a number of days prompted multiple major flooding events in the region and northern New South Wales, with some areas recording over a metre of rain.

The Insurance Council of Australia said insurers had received 107,844 claims relating to the floods in Queensland and New South Wales worth an estimated $1.62 billion, as of March 9.
