It’s the Gold Coast beach holiday set to leave surfing fans in seventh heaven.

Ahead of the summer holidays, Airbnb has teamed up with Surf Life Saving Australia and surfing legend Mick Fanning for the ultimate beach break.

A three-night stay at the Palm Beach surf life saving club, including a surfing session, shopping trip and sunset barbecue with Fanning himself, will go on sale for just $7 on a first in, first served basis on the Airbnb platform from 10am, Queensland time, on December 18.

The vacation must be taken from January 24-27 next year.

While the prized weekend retreat – to take place in specially renovated digs at the surf club, would be worth thousands of dollars, the one-off promotion is going for just $7 in a nod to Fanning’s competition number from his pro surfing days.

The initiative also aims to highlight the important role of surf life saving in beach safety.

Fanning, who hopes to introduce his two young children to Nippers at a local surf club when they are older, said a knowledge of beach safety was vital for any Aussie summer holiday.

“The ocean is a powerful place,” said the three-time world champ.

“I think Nippers is absolutely amazing and I will put my kids in Nippers for sure.

“I am really excited to host guests on the beautiful Gold Coast and near the surf break where my passion for surfing became my career.

“As an Airbnb host and to mark this important work with Surf Life Saving, I hope to encourage people to enjoy our beaches and waterways safely and to complete the online training now available from Surf Life Saving Australia.”

Airbnb Country Manager Susan Wheeldon said the holiday platform had an important role to play when it came to educating both domestic and international travellers about water safety.

“Coastal getaways are always popular, with an over 35 per cent growth in local and international visitors last summer opting to stay in beachfront listings (and) Airbnb wants to play our part to keep people safe while they enjoy our pristine beaches and waterways,” she said.

“Staying in a home on Airbnb means you can enjoy a pool in your backyard or find secluded beaches and hidden swimming spots … often that means you may not have in-depth understanding of water safety or be unfamiliar with the local conditions.

“It’s important to remember not all beaches are patrolled and not all the time, so swimming can be a risk for both domestic and overseas visitors.”
