Emergency services have spent the afternoon retrieving a motorcyclist who crashed on a Queensland mountain and went down the range.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said they were called to the incident on the Burnett Highway between Bouldercombe and Mount Morgan in Central Queensland at 3.55pm today.
Eyewitnesses said the rider, who was conscious and talking after the crash, had “flown over the guard rail” a corner away from the Mount Morgan lookout.
The rider was with a group of motorcyclists when the incident happened.
More than a dozen emergency services personnel made their way from the point of where the rider left his bike and down at least 50 metres in scrub to attend to the rider.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said QFD were notified just after 4pm of a motorcyclist “going over the handlebars” and down the range.
She said the ‘Tech Rescue’ team from Rockhampton were activated, and they set up ropes to retrieve the rider who was left in the hands of QAS.
The QAS spokesman said the adult male patient was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition with lower leg injuries about 5pm.
Queensland Police Services did block the road during the rescue operation, stopping motorists heading towards Mount Morgan at the Poison Creek Road intersection, but it has already reopened.
