A new tourism campaign has been launched to help North Queensland bounce back from the devastating floods once the clean-up is over.

Qantas has teamed up with Tourism and Events Queensland to offer cut-price airfares to destinations including flood-ravaged Townsville and the Whitsundays.

The deals are being offered for travel between April and September, when the disaster-hit regions will hopefully be back to close to their postcard-perfect best.

Up to 50 per cent off is on offer on selected return economy airfares when two or more passengers travel together to some of Queensland’s most iconic destinations, including the Whitsundays, Tropical North Queensland, the Gold and Sunshine coasts and even Longreach.

More than 10,000 seats to 14 Sunshine State holiday hotspots will be up for grabs in the sale, which launches on Monday.

Return economy fares start from $298 for two people for Brisbane to Proserpine or Sydney to Coolangatta, with more than 20 other routes on offer.

Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said the sale had been carefully planned to take advantage of a key booking period.

“We’re all feeling like our Christmas holidays are a distant memory and that’s why we’ve planned this sale now, at a time when people want to book their next trip,” he said.

“We’ve seen flooding and severe weather in some parts of the state and these regions will welcome the support of visitors which their economies are so reliant on.”

TEQ’s Ollie Philpot said despite the flooding, most of Queensland was continuing to shine and welcome visitors.

“We’re encouraging visitors to keep their Queensland holiday plans, take advantage of this fantastic offer to get them here, and come and explore the incredible experiences on offer right around the state,” he said.

“With up to 50 per cent off select Qantas flights into 14 airports and more deals through Qantas Hotels, now is the time to book for a Queensland holiday this year.”
