Nova breakfast radio host Nikki Osborne marked the return to school for most Queensland schoolkids this morning with a with a confession about her own parenting fail.
Speaking on Nova 106.9’s Ash, Luttsy & Nikki Osborne breakfast show on Tuesday, Osborne recounted the less-than-perfect drop-off experience with her eldest son Will on his first day of kindy.
“We had to drop him off, but only for three hours. I was just not across the whole ‘mum thing.’ All my mum friends were younger and had babies, and my own mum wasn’t around much to help. I really didn’t know what I was doing,” Osborne told her co-hosts Ash Bradnam and David ‘Luttsy’ Lutteral.
The comedian revealed she forgot to pack lunch for her boy.
“At the end of the day, I picked him up and said ‘how did it go’,” she said.
“And [the staff] they’re like, ‘it was great, but we need to chat to you about something’.
“They said, you need to bring a lunch box in. I’m like, ‘What do you mean?’ She goes ‘dropping him off with a sweet chai latte and a muffin is not appropriate’.”
Osborne’s admission sparked laughs from her co-hosts, with the comedian explaining her upbringing as a self-described “tuckshop kid” had left her clueless about packing lunches.
“My mum never packed my lunches,” she shared.
“The only thing she put in my lunch box was coins so I could go to tuck shop. Thank goodness because my mum’s cooking is atrocious!”
