A man in his 40s has been left with injuries to his arms and hands after being attacked by a crocodile near Mount Isa.

A man in his late 40s has sustained arm and hand injuries after being bitten by a freshwater crocodile at Boodjamulla Lawn Hill National Park on Sunday afternoon.

Paramedics spent almost four hours at the scene of the incident off Wills Road, arriving at 1:48pm with the man airlifted to Mount Isa Hospital at 5:45pm in a stable condition.

The national park is located near the Queensland and Northern Territory border, 200km north of the Barkly Highway and 100km west of Gregory Downs in North West Queensland.

Freshwater crocodiles are known to reside in the park.
