Police have released footage of a man hiding under a large pile of clothes while officers tried to arrest him after he allegedly stole a car while armed.

The 31-year-old man from Pallara was charged after he allegedly threatened a 20-year-old man who was seated in his car at a carpark on Thrush Street about 8pm on April 13.

He then allegedly demanded the man exit his vehicle. The 20-year-old complied and was not physically harmed.

Police allege the 31-year-old fled the scene in the stolen Volkswagen Polo and after proactive patrols in the area officers found the car on Kraft Road at Pallara that same night.

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly in the passenger seat at the time the car was found and was dealt with under provisions of the youth justice act.

Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigations Branch, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant, Justin Suffolk said police remain vigilant in their mission to disrupt crime swiftly and keep the community safe.

“The rapid recovery of the stolen vehicle by Centenary police patrols and interception of the alleged offender is a testament to the officers who work tirelessly everyday to keep our community safe,” he said.

“Every stolen vehicle represents a disruption in someone’s life. This is the second time in one-week proactive patrols have recovered a vehicle within hours of its alleged theft.”

“We are determined to continue minimise the impact of vehicle theft, in addition to preventing further offences and locking-up those that would cause harm.”
