A man has suffered life-threatening injuries in an alleged stabbing at a home west of Brisbane.
Emergency services attended a residence on Bergin Street, Booval, about 12.35am on Monday and located a 58-year-old Alexandra Hills man with stab wounds.
Police will allege the man was involved in an altercation with another man who is known to him at the residence during which he sustained life-threatening abdominal wounds.
He was transported to Brisbane’s Princes Alexandra Hospital where is is in a stable condition.
“He had a singular wound to his abdomen and an arm wound,” a QAS spokeswoman said.
Aaron Lee Johnson, 40, of Booval, was charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
The matter was briefly mentioned in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday without Johnson’s appearance.
Defence lawyer JD Batch indicated that he could not give any instructions.
“He was lying on the floor under a sheet or blanket and wouldn’t or couldn’t respond,” he said.
“It’s not the fault of the watch house that he is under alcohol or drugs.”
Mr Batch also said the matter was listed as attempted murder at one stage, but now being downgraded as grievous bodily harm.
Court documents revealed the victim was Mauro Canetto.
Mr Canetto’s sister-in-law Kylie Junge described him as an “amazing person”.
“He’s harmless. He loves to ride his push bike, and he loves showing it off,” Ms Junge said.
“He has a daughter, and he’s a loving dad … we love him so much.”
She said the family did not know Johnson. Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick requested a forensic procedure order.
The court heard the test required included swabbing of the hand.
Magistrate Robert Turra said there were reasonable grounds for believing the forensic procedure may provide evidence of the indictable offence so he granted the order.
He adjourned the matter to Tuesday and requested the defandent to appear via video link.
“Hopefully, he might be able to see someone,” he said.
Johnson was remanded in custody.
