The Opposition has called for an investigation into Premier David Crisafulli and Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie after they failed to upload diaries disclosing any meetings with stakeholders and lobbyists prior to the October state election.

Opposition leaders and their chief of staff are required to submit monthly diaries as per the guidelines of the Queensland Opposition Handbook.

However, archive searches show Mr Crisafulli and Mr Bleijie both failed to submit Opposition diaries for the month of October.

Opposition Leader Steven Miles has written to the Director-General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet Damien Walker requesting an investigation into the “potential breach” of the handbook.

“It is therefore concerning that the diary extracts for October 2024 for the Leader of the Opposition (the Member for Broadwater), the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (the Member for Kawana) and the then Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition have not been released and published on the Queensland Parliament website, pursuant to the Opposition Handbook,” he said.

“As this is a potential breach of the Opposition Handbook by the Member for Broadwater, the Member for Kawana and the then Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition and as the Director-General responsible for the Queensland Opposition Handbook, it is respectfully requested that this potential breach be investigated.”

Cabinet ministers are also required to submit their diaries monthly, providing a transparent public record of any meetings, events, and official engagements.

While parliament was dissolved on October 1 in preparation for the official election campaign, Mr Miles argued the handbook “does not provide any time limits or restrictions on when official diaries should not be published”.

The Opposition last week hit out at the government for failing to release more than five cabinet documents over the past three months.
