A mother of two is now facing a pending appearance in the Supreme Court after police raided her home and found a “large quantity of drugs” inside a black box buried in the yard.
Kaysha Jaide Adsett-Murfet, 27, made a bail application in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 7 where the court heard she and her boyfriend, Stewart Leonhard Kleidon, were both charged over the hidden drugs.
Both have been charged with two counts of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, along with one count each of possessing anything used in a crime, contravening an order about electronically stored information, possessing tainted property and possessing drug utensils.
Neither have entered any pleas and Mr Kleidon was remanded in custody with no bail application being made.
Ms Adsett-Murfet’s lawyer Kylie Ward said her client, a mum who works as a cleaner, claims she had knowledge of the drugs in the black box in the yard of her Hidden Valley residence.
Police prosecutor Courtney Brown said Ms Adsett-Murfet was accused of refusing to provide police access to her phone after she received legal advice.
“There’s a concerning amount of drugs found,” she said.
Ms Brown said the amount of drugs allegedly found at Ms Adsett-Murfet’s residence means the matter will need to be dealt with in the Supreme Court.
“She denied (to police) having any knowledge of the black case that was buried in the yard, yet … at the conclusion of the search warrant, both parties indicated that their fingerprints may be located on the items inside of the black case.
“The vertical strip of red tape immediately above the location of the buried black case was consistent with lengths of red tape used within the household.
“The clip-seal bags were the same found in the household.”
The court heard drugs were also found in the main bedroom and Ms Adsett-Murfet did not have any criminal history.
Ms Ward said her client claims she only consumes illicit substances recreationally on the weeks where she doesn’t have her children in her care.
Magistrate Lance Rundle granted Ms Adsett-Murfet bail, after explaining what would happen if she breaches it, including the possibility of being remanded in a women’s correctional facility, with none in Central Queensland.
A brief of evidence was ordered and her charges were adjourned until August 27 while Mr Kleidon’s charges were adjourned to July 17.
Ms Adsett-Murfet was strongly supported in court by family who thanked the magistrate as they left.
