The family of a Brisbane dad who was stabbed to death in his own home have been forced to make a “tough call” to close multiple businesses just days after his funeral.
Greg Josephson, 58, was farewelled in an emotional funeral at Clayfield last week following his death on June 26 where he was stabbed at his Oriel St mansion.
A 15-year-old boy who is known to Mr Josephson has been charged with his murder.
Mr Josephson – the co-founder of cult retail chain Universal Store – owned multiple other businesses on the Sunshine Coast, including Cafe Doonan.
On Monday, the Cafe Doonan team announced Mr Josephson’s family had made the hard decision to close three of his other businesses – Eumundi Sourdough Co, Cafe Noosa and Noosa General Store.
“As some of you may have noticed, we’ve been a bit quiet on our socials these last few weeks,” the post said.
“This is due to dealing with the heartbreaking and unexpected passing of the cafes’ wonderful owner, Greg Josephson.
“Words can do this loss no justice. Greg was on his way to create an amazing hub of businesses, with a passion and drive that was unmatched. He loved being a part of this community and had an impressive vision for the four locations.
“He was a kind and gentle man who is missed dearly by all staff. We are deeply saddened by this loss.
“His beautiful family has been forced to make a tough call, so it is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Cafe Noosa, Noosa General Store and Eumundi Sourdough Co, effective since Monday 14th July.
“We know this comes as quite a shock, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.
“We will all do our absolute best to honour Greg’s dream.
“To all our amazing customers, on behalf of our staff and Greg’s family, thank you for sticking by us. Your ongoing support means a great deal. There is no Cafe Doonan without you.”
Eumundi Sourdough Co opened in November last year and had gained a respected reputation at its Eumundi storefront.
Cafe Noosa and Noosa General Store opened in 2023 and operated out of a complex in Noosa Heads. Cafe Doonan will remain open.
Mr Josephson also owned Rosecliffe Boutique Farm Cottages in Noosa Hinterland, which is currently for sale.
The Clayfield mansion where Mr Josephson was killed was for sale prior to his death, but has since been taken off the market.
Mr Josephson founded the Universal Store businesses with his brother Michael in 1999 and later sold the business to private equity investors in a reported deal worth $100m.
Mr Josephson, a property and retail entrepreneur, amassed a multimillion-dollar property portfolio, including the $13.9m Noosa Reef Hotel.
