Three women, killed in a horror crash at Grosvenor, near Eidsvold, in the North Burnett on Monday night were all local to the area.

Speaking to reporters in Bundaberg on Tuesday, Acting Superintendent Brad Inskip revealed the crash may have been caused by one car veering into oncoming traffic.

“It’s early days but it appears that one vehicle may have crossed over to the wrong side of the road, but we are unsure.

“Police are asking for assistance from the community who may have witnessed the incident or just before and if they are able to provide any dashcam footage.”

There is no evidence at this stage that either of the drivers were under the influence.

Acting Superintendent Inskip said the crash “wasn’t a nice scene” for the emergency responders and witnesses in the community who were there, as one of the vehicles was “engulfed by flames”.

All three victims were from the North Burnett area, and police have spoken to the council to “look for opportunities” to support people in the community who may be struggling through this “tough time”.

Initial investigations indicate, about 5.05pm a red Ford Laser and a grey Mitsubishi Lancer were travelling in opposite directions on the Burnett Highway near the intersection of A Creek Road, when the two vehicles collided.

When emergency services arrived on scene, the Mitsubishi Lancer was fully engulfed in flames.

Four fire crews, including two fire and rescue crews and two rural fire service crews, attended the scene.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford, a 42-year-old Cracow woman, was declared dead at the scene.

Two occupants of the Mitsubishi, an 18-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman also from the North Burnett, were also declared dead at the scene.

Hundreds of people have commented, shared, and reacted to news of the horrifying accident on social media.

“Fly high beautiful ladies, you all will be greatly missed,” Trudie said.

“The North Burnett grieves heavily this day, as well as the Cracow community … Such bright, beautiful young lives so tragically lost,” Bonnie wrote.

“Just so very sad,” Kat said.

Some commenters highlighted the alarming number of lives lost to road accidents in Queensland, noting that two other people had died in the Wide Bay region just hours before the North Burnett crash.

Investigations into the cause are ongoing and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact police.
