Former cotton farmer John Norman pleads guilty over $30k irrigation fraud

A former high-profile Queensland cotton farmer has pleaded guilty to fraud relating to an irrigation program.

A former Australian cotton farmer of the year has pleaded guilty to fraud.

John Douglas Norman, owner of Norman Farming at Toobeah at the relevant time, appeared in Brisbane District Court on Monday.

He was represented by two high profile King’s Counsel – Jeff Hunter and Angus Edwards.

Norman entered pleas of guilty to six counts of fraud – dishonestly induce the delivery of property to the value of $30,000 or more on diverse dates ranging between April 2011 and June 2016.

The case relates to an irrigation water efficiency program.

Norman, who was named Australian Cotton Farmer of the Year in 2010, will be sentenced on June 10.

He remains on bail.
