Australia needs more people involved in building defence capability

A technology project to build hi-tech defence aircraft parts that would support hundreds of jobs in Brisbane has been granted $34 million by the Federal Government.

The Boeing-led project, known as the Advanced Defence Aerospace Manufacturing Network, will pull together about 10 small and medium aerospace-focused companies to beef up Australia’s aircraft building capabilities.

The project costs $103 million in total, with the Government chipping in $34 million through its Modern Manufacturing Initiative.

According to the Government, the project will create an estimated 400 jobs in Brisbane and Melbourne and a total of 1500 jobs nationally by 2024.

“Our $270 billion defence investment is keeping Australians safe, building our sovereign defence capability and creating jobs while securing a stronger economy and a stronger future,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

“We make things in Australia and under our Government’s economic plan, we are backing our manufacturing sector to create jobs and grow the economy.”
