A dumped motorbike sparked a massive search near Rockhampton overnight, with a fears a rider has plunged as much as 100m.

Firefighters were climbing down an embankment at Bouldercombe, south of Rockhampton, after reports a motorcyclist had it a guardrail and gone off the side of the Burnett Highway about 9.30pm.

Emergency crews located the motorcycle roughly 10m down the embankment at the Mount Morgan ranges and were abseiling further down to search the area.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said the embankment was about 100m deep.

But police now believe the bike was dumped.

Police conducted “extensive searches” of nearby bushland, but no-one was found.

Meanwhile, a man in his 50s was rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries following a separate crash in the Gympie Region.

Paramedics and a rescue helicopter responded after the man’s car rolled down an embankment off Anderleigh Rd in Kia Ora at 9.16pm.

He was later flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with potentially life-threatening chest, abdominal and head injuries.
