Brisbane’s show may have been cancelled but that didn’t stop thousands of people from enjoying a taste of the beloved event thanks to the smash success Ekka drive-thru.

RNA spokesperson Veronica Carew said thousands of strawberry sundaes, dagwood dogs and Bertie Beetles were sold during the innovative pop-up Ekka drive-thru, which wrapped up on Sunday.

Ms Carew said organisers were heartened by the enthusiastic response from Queenslanders to support the initiative after the show had to be cancelled from Covid.

“We are so grateful to the community for their support and can’t wait to stage the biggest comeback Ekka of all time in 2022,” she said.

The Ekka drive-thru was a “really cool experience” for Jaimie Smith and his son Cooper. “We haven’t been able to go to the Ekka for two years now so the kids were getting a bit antsy … we really enjoyed being able to drive around the showgrounds – that was definitely a highlight,” Mr Smith said.
