Jarrod Bleijie, likely to become deputy premier in nine days, is still refusing to attend The Courier-Mail’s deputy leaders’ debate.

What voters think of cardboard cut out Jarrod

Deputy Premier Cameron Dick has recommitted to attending a debate and share Labor’s vision for Queensland with undecided voters as LNP challenger Jarrod Bleijie opts to send a cardboard cut out of himself instead.

Mr Bleijie, who polls indicate will become deputy premier within nine days, is still refusing to attend The Courier-Mail’s deputy leaders’ debate alongside Mr Dick – despite voters in his Kawana electorate urging him to do so.

Mr Dick has recommitted to attending the event and sharing his vision for Queensland with 20 undecided Queenslanders.

“It’s a unique situation I’ve been placed in, but I’m happy to talk about Labor’s announcements and our promises to Queensland and how we’re fully funding them,” he said.

“But I think I might get a little bit more sense out of the cardboard cutout than I would normally have out of Jarrod Bleijie, so I will turn up to debate whoever might be in that chair next week.

“It might be a short debate, we’ll see.”

Mr Bleijie again refused to join Mr Dick, at The Courier-Mail’s request, and outline the LNP’s vision for Queensland to undecided voters.

“I’ve been debating his for 16 years in parliament and he just loves the sound of his own voice,” Mr Bleijie said.

“I will say it again today, having a corflute cutout of Cameron Dick can still, will still make more sense and tell the truth more than Cameron Dick.”

Mr Bleijie made the comments while criticising the Labor government over the delayed release of a critical report investigating failures in cancer diagnoses at Redlands Hospital.

He sensationally accused the state government of prioritising political survival over patient care.
