Cheap flights on offer as Queensland’s borders reopen

Flights are selling from as cheap as $59 as airlines capitalise on the reopening of Queensland’s borders. CHEAPEST DEALS

Queensland border reopens

Airlines are capitalising on the reopening of Queensland’s borders with Virgin slashing prices on a million seats and offering flights from Sydney to the Gold Coast for as little as $59 and from Melbourne for just $10 more.

Virgin is offering services from Adelaide to Brisbane from $99, and in a boost for north Queensland tourism is selling Adelaide-Cairns services from $129.

Melbourne-Townsville services are also discounted, with flights from $99, while services into the Sunshine Coast are expected to be in hot demand with Melbourne-Maroochydore fares from $95 and Sydney-Maroochydore from $65.

Hamilton Island, which has recently experienced strong demand, has also been bolstered by cheap flight deals with services from Sydney selling from $109.

The deals are being sold under a ‘Queensland Is Good to Go’ sale.

Virgin Australia Group chief commercial officer Dave Emerson said the deals would help travellers across the country reunite with “loved ones, friends and family, or finally visit that dream Queensland holiday destination over the summer period and into 2022”.

Virgin says flight searches on virginaustralia.com increased by almost 120% on Monday afternoon last week after the Queensland Government announced their border reopening plans.

Qantas is selling Sydney-Gold Coast services under a Half Off Flights Sale, with one-way fares from $70.

Sydney-Maroochydore services are selling from $89, and Brisbane flights from $99.

Other parts of regional Queensland are also expected to benefit from increased tourism fuelled by discounted fares, with Toowoomba’s Wellcamp Airport now just a $139 flight from Sydney.

Sydney-Townsville services on Qantas start from $169 one-way, while flights from the NSW capital to Hervey Bay are priced from $255.

Melbourne services into Queensland have also been discounted, with Gold Coast flights on Qantas services from $97 one-way, Maroochydore from $104, and Brisbane from $149.

Flights from Melbourne to Cairns are also on sale from $154 one way, and Melbourne-Townsville services are priced from $179.

The border reopening coincides with increased activity at airports, and in the usually-quiet skies above Brisbane.

A caller to Radio 4BC phoned in from a boat on Moreton Bay to report seeing flights overhead every 10 minutes – in stark contrast to the almost-empty skies of the past two years.

Earlier today, couriermail.com.au reported that passenger numbers through Brisbane Airport were set to jump from 17,000-18,000 a day up to 30,000 a day this week – and would increase further in the lead-up to Christmas.
