A man has allegedly driven off with more than $900 worth of diesel fuel from a rural Queensland petrol station, with the alleged offender driving a vehicle with two different sets of number plates.
Grantham Fuels general manager Belinda Barton said the alleged offender filled a diesel tank and multiple jerry cans with 500 litres of diesel fuel to the value of $934.33 at approximately 4.20pm yesterday.
“I got the call just after it happened, one of our team members saw the alert on our console that the nozzle has been hung up,” she said.
“They [the employee] was off serving other customers, walked up and they were gone.”
Describing the situation as something that made her quite “cranky”, Ms Barton said they are only a small business.
“We are not a multinational business. People say, ‘oh, it’s $900,’ but it’s $900 to a small business that is not having a great time lately with road works and access to our area being hard,” she said.
“This is the first time we’ve ever had anything quite this large as a drive-off.”
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
